Luna Slatcher the Havanese.

Lunar the Havanese - relaxing
What is your doggys name? Luna Slachter
How old is your baby? Born April 2009
What do you love most about your dog? The loving look in her eyes
Is there anything special you would like to tell us about your
Havanese?
Luna is very tricky, she thinks she a cat.  She can jump and climb and she does a funny “Shamu” move where she spins two times as she jumps in the air to get some thing off the table!  We are trying to train her to stay down so she doesn’t get hurt but there is no stopping her.  She likes to run around our pool and see herself in the reflection.

Havanese Puppy name help?

Hi i'm the proud owner of a havanese puppy it's a girl (she's black and white in colour) I want something that is classic but not overused to the point where every dog in the neigbourhood will have that name. Got any suggestions?

what are good or bad characteristics of the havanese dog ?

i would like to know from personal experience because i've been thinking about getting a dog.

Havanese are a wonderful little breed.
They are not yappy, they are very bright and learn FAST.
They are a sturdy little breed that have few health problems.
They love kids, cats, other dogs, everybody.
They are CUTE!
They come in every color you can imagine.
They are low on the allergy scale.
I could go on and on!
The only two drawbacks to a Havanese I can think of is, they do need regular grooming, and they are ADDICTIVE, like potato chips, it's hard to just have one!
If you are really interested in a havanese here is a website with info, pics and regional club and breeder listings. http://www.havanese.org/

Shamus the Havanese

Hello Fiona

My dogs name is Shamus and he loves football and the Steelers… He was very happy that they won the Super Bowl. Love to see the new pictures when you add new Havanese They are great dogs but you are right about the potty training we are at a year and just when I think he has it well something makes him start going in the house again. I don’t stop trying hoping someday he will get it. Thank you.

Are Havanese dogs good off the leash?

if they are, how do you train them to stay close and not run off?

You have to train them.

as to the other poster. Why take a dog offleash? why not? my dog enjoys it more, and so do I. he is on his leash means business offleash he knows he can do as he please (offcourse such as run, swim chase birds. not be outrageous and annoying)

How's the behavior of havanese dogs?

I have a poodle–a tiny toy to be exact– and he's damn smart. Like I had no idea dog's could be smarter than my 15 year old little brother smart! I taught him a trick called "show me" where he shows me what he wants, whether it's water, food, play, potty, pet me–it's the most useful trick ever. Anyways, my wife wants to get another small dog, and I don't mind as long as his intelligence/ obedience potential is equal to the poodle. We're looking at Havanese, how are they?
Copy and paste isn't going win here!

Havanese are natural companion dogs: gentle and responsive. They become very attached to their human families and are excellent with children. Very affectionate and playful with a high degree of intelligence, these cheerful little dogs are very sociable and will get along with everyone including people, dogs, cats and other pets. They are easy to obedience train and get along well with other dogs. This curious dog loves to sit up high on a chair to observe what is going on. It is very sensitive to the tone of your voice. Harsh words will only upset the dog and will achieve very little. Generally, harsh punishment is unnecessary. The Havanese have a long reputation of being circus dogs, probably because it learns quickly and enjoys doing things for people. The Fédération Cynologique Internationale standard notes that "he is easy to train as alarm dog."It is best to teach them not to bark unnecessarily while they are still young to prevent it from becoming a habit. Havanese can be good alarm dogs - making sure to alert you when a visitor arrives, but quick to welcome the guest once it sees you welcome them. Some dogs may exhibit a degree of shyness around strangers, but this is not characteristic of the breed. They are very very attracted to people and will absolutely not serve as a guard dog.

edit

As far as intelligence by breed, Poodle ranks second most intelligent (second to the Border Collie). Understanding of New Commands in Less than 5 repetitions. Obey First Command: 95% of the time or better.

Whereas the Havanese ranks about no. 45…. Understanding of New Commands in 25 to 40 repetitions. Obey First Command: 50% of the time or better…

Any body with a Havanese dog?

Im just wondering how this kind of dog is, and just how they are to be around.. any advise if i get one. I was wondering if they are one of those dogs who have the tendency to chew every thing up? i know all dogs do a bit, but some do more then others..
please just tell me anything you know
thanks
Camille

They're part of a constellation of breeds (also including the Bichon Frise and Maltese) that were developed to be companions. That's what they excel at.

All dogs chew; give them things they are allowed to chew and keep things you don't want chewed, like shoes, out of reach.
