Hi,
I was out shopping the other day, when I noticed just how many shoppers were purchasing dog food from the supermarket shelves!
Is this the best way to make sure your dog is well looked after, diet and nutrition wise? I don’t think so. I just think we as a society are becoming a little too pressed for time and are giving into supermarket giants and any dog foods to feed our beloved family pets- if we happen to be supermarket shopping, then why not purchase the dog foods available in the same isles we do our family shopping?
I don’t think there are many dog foods available on the supermarket shelves that can claim to be natural and well balanced. This is why I try to provide my dogs (and I have had a few dogs over the years) with my own recipes, sometimes even using raw foods.
This is just something for you to think about before purchasing pre-packaged supermarket dog foods. Did you know that many world famous Doctors of Veterinary Medicine and many Published Dog Care Experts universally agree that any dog that eats commercial dog food as a ‘normal diet’, is at a much higher risk of dying prematurely. And by the time any symptoms are noticeable it is often too late to prevent an agonizing early and sometimes even slow death.
This is just something for you to ponder next time you are thinking about purchasing supermarket processed dog food. Any way I hope I have not depressed you too much speaking about dogs and death, but at least you know the eventual outcome can be reversed by simply watching what you feed your dog.
Take care for now.
I will be getting back to you shortly with some natural and easy to make Free Dog Food Recipes.

Hi Fiona COULD YOU PLEASE TELL ME WHY MY DOG HAS TO THINK HE CAN RUNS AFTER EVERY DOG AND CAT. WHEN HE IS SITTING ON THE PORCH, HE WANTS TO RN AFTER THEM.ALSO, IF OUR DOOR IS OPENED BY MISTAKE HE WILL RUN AWAY UP THE STREET I A AFRAID HE IS GOING TO GET HIT BY A CAR.
THANKS
VYE
You have to teach the dog to sit and stay with the door wide open. You have to do it gradually, and be sure to introduce the tempting item as a test. Your dog should also learn the “Leave it” command as part of the sit/stay.
My dogs will stand/stay and not move when my gate is wide open and there is a squirrel in the front yard. It has taken three years of consistent effort but it is worth it. I also know that deep down, it is their instinct to chase little animals like this and that they may not always be 100% reliable because they are dogs!!
What about the foods like Innova, or Eagle Pack, Solid Gold (Hundenflocken) or Nutro that are the “better” foods from a “better” pet store?
Are those harmful as well?
I totally agree with you about the diet slowly robbing our fur-babies of their health. After doing extensive research on dog foods, their mfgr. process and ingredients I have discovered the best meal to serve is a combination of Stella and Chewy’s Freeze Dried Chicken Steaks along with a tablespoon of home cooked plain white meat chicken (microwave cooked) or Whole Life Freeze Dried White meat chicken. This eliminates the “killer” ingredients of rice, wheat, potato, barley, corn, meat/meal, flour and sugars. Your fur-baby will be leaner, healthier, more energetic and not have digestive or other symptoms that a poor diet brings. As for brands to avoid, well that would be any kibble or canned dog food. I am not an expert nor do I profess to be one, I am a very concerned pup-mom of 3 finicky eaters. I could list several and I mean several foods tried and failed but I don’t want to name names in this forum. I wish everyone the best in trying to find the best food solution for your fur-babies. Sincerely, Jan
When we got our little girl Buffy, we were given a specific brand to buy online. We’ve done that. It is supposed to be all natural food. It’s called Life’s abundance natural dog food. She’s thriving very well. Any comments. cjl
Hi - my cuban puppy Mookie really likes eating combination brown rice, wild rice, red rice except white white rice (he does not white rice). Is this any good for him? Of course I give this rice combo plus a turkey stew with peas and carrots which I cooked with just a dash of soy sauce for taste instead of salt. I this kind of diet ok? He doesn’t like store bought food. Would appreciate your comments. Thanks, PHielle
